District President Audrey Macfie has authorized the posting of Draft 5 (final)
of the proposed District Constitution for vetting by members of the District.
Members of the local constitution committee included the president along with
Garfield Robertson, Ruby Jenkins and Don Dorst.
A new constitution is required because the district no longer includes the two
Nipissing units which now form District 43.
For all intents and purposes, we are a "new" district as well, requiring a
"new" constitution.
By provincial policy, all district constitutions will have to be vetted by the
Constitution Committee, in some rotation, on a regular basis from now on.
We have taken the initiative of requesting the Constitution committee to
consider our proposed constitution as its first "review".
This draft is based on the new provincial "model district constitution"
developed by the provincial constitution committee. It follows the former
constitution very closely.
Provincial second vice president and our executive liaison officer, Arnold Hull
has had a close look at draft 4 and made a few procedural and logistical
changes, resulting in draft 5 being posted. Arnold recommends that we go ahead
and approve the constitution at our District Annual Meeting in October and
submit it to the provincial office for approval. He sees success with that
process.
Since it's a costly process to send each member a copy for examination before
the meeting, we'll table the draft for approval without prior vetting. Such
approval will require a 90% majority. We hope that members who have an interest
in constitutions will be able to examine it closely through this posting.
More information on this process will come through unit newsletters.
