President's welcome

Welcome to the website of the Retired Teachers of Ontario / Les Enseignantes et Enseignants Retraites de l’Ontario.

Now in its 41st year of existence, RTO/ERO is a bilingual organization that is recognized as the primary voice of retired teachers, administrators and other educational personnel in Ontario.

RTO/ERO advocates on behalf of its members at all levels of government and it enters into strategic coalitions that promote seniors’ and community issues.

RTO/ERO has 47 Districts that carry out a variety of social, recreational and charitable activities, including Project Service to Others. There are 45 Districts in Ontario and 2 in British Columbia. The leadership of this dynamic organization is provided by the Senate, Provincial Executive and District/Units in the 47 Districts. The hundreds of volunteers make the organization what it is.

The 16 staff members are second to none. Their skill and expertise enhance the work of the organization and build communication with the members.
Each year, provincial workshops are held to upskill the members in the Districts. Of particular importance is the necessity to assist the Districts in doing their work in an efficient, effective manner. The sharing of ideas is often rated as most beneficial.

If you go to the various links on our website, you will note that RTO/ERO is a caring organization offering a variety of programs and services, as well as a top notch health and insurance plan for its 63,000 members.

Our news magazine, Renaissance, is published quarterly, while the Liaison newsletter (login required) keeps our members well informed on a regular basis.

If you wish more information, please feel free to browse our website or to phone our office. The RTO/ERO motto, “Here For You Now, Here For Your Future”, truly symbolizes what this great organization is all about.
