2020 RTO membership fees

RTO membership fees have been simplified. The change to the fee is more fair and inclusive. The new fee will also be easier to understand for future members.

For 2020, members will pay no more than $70 for their annual membership fee. Current members whose 2019 fee was less than $70 will see an inflationary increase of 2%.

RTO continues to offer free membership until retirement – or in the first year of joining for those who are already retired.

We are simplifying our membership fees and making them more equitable for all members. Our current fee calculations are confusing and hard for many members to understand. The new structure will ensure stable revenue to sustain the programs and services our members value most.

For 2020, members will pay no more than $70. In subsequent years, the membership fee will increase by inflation.

If you paid membership fees in the past, your 2020 membership fee will be your 2019 fee, plus a 2% inflationary increase, up to the maximum fee of $70.

If you joined as a free member and will be paying membership fees for the first time, your 2020 membership fee is:
• $59.16 (last year’s average fee, plus 2% inflationary increase), if you joined before, or on, May 28, 2019
• $70 if you joined after May 28, 2019

Your 2020 membership fee is your 2019 membership fee plus an increase of 2% to cover inflation, up to the maximum fee of $70. Almost one-quarter of members will see a reduction from their 2019 fee.

If you pay your membership fee through OTPP or pre-authorized debit, you will receive a notice by email or mail of your 2020 payment.

If you pay by credit card or cheque, you will receive a renewal notice by email or mail.

Notification will be sent by November 30th, 2019 by either postal mail, email, and/or by phone depending on the contact information you have supplied for us.

Welcome to RTO! If you are not retiring in 2019, membership is free until retirement.

If you retired before Sept. 1, 2019, your 2020 membership fee is:

• $59.16 (last year’s average fee, plus 2% inflationary increase), if you joined on or before May 28, 2019
• $70 if you joined after May 28, 2019

If you retired sometime in 2019 after Aug. 31, your membership is free until 2021.

Yes, all members, including actively employed, who enroll in the RTO insurance plans pay the membership fee.

Congratulations on your retirement!

A decision at our annual meeting determined that members who were members as of May 28, 2019 were “grandfathered.”

• For members who had not previously paid a membership fee, their fee is based on last year’s average fee, plus 2% inflationary increase).
• New members joining from May 29 to Aug. 31, 2019 pay the new membership fee of $70.

If you’re retiring before Sept. 1st, 2020, you will pay a membership fee in 2021. The 2021 membership fee will include an incremental inflationary increase that is yet to be determined.

If you retire from Sept. 1 onward in 2020, you will not pay the membership fee until 2022.

There are three ways to pay:
• If you are collecting a pension through OTPP, the easiest and most efficient payment method is pension deduction. If you have not already done so, please contact our office at 1-800-361-9888 or membership@rto-ero.org to provide the authorization.
• If you’re not receiving a pension from OTPP, the easiest payment method is a pre-authorized debit from your bank account. Download the form.
• We also accept credit card payments – online or by phoning our office – 1-800-361-9888 or 416-962-9463.
